Type Locality and Naming

It was named in 1975 by the 8th Geological Party of, and published in 1990 by, the Hubei Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources. The type section is located at Lanjiafan in the southern part of Suizhou City, Hubei Province.

Synonym: (兰家畈组)


Lithology and Thickness

It consists of gray green basaltic volcanic clastics, lava intercalated with biolimestone, marble and sericitic phyllite, all of which jointly compose 3 to 4 eruption circles.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It rests disconformably on the Lower Cambrian or the Guchengfan Gr, and on the Suixian Gr of the Proterozoic Erathem.

Upper contact

The Lanjiafan Fm is pseudo-conformably overlain by the Leigongjian Fm

Regional extent

The formation changes considerably in thickness, increasing from 50 m in northwest to 1562 m in southeast, and is mainly exposed in southern part of Suizhou.

Fossils

The limestone yields anthozoa Palaeofavosites sp., Favosites sp.; brachiopod Rhynchonellacea; crinoid columnal Cyclocyclicus sp. and gastropod, etc.
